Booking your first photoshoot for your baby is an exciting milestone, but it’s natural to feel unsure about what to expect or which type of session is right for you. Don’t worry—I’ve worked with many first-time parents, and my goal is always to make the process relaxed, fun, and full of cherished memories. Let’s explore the different options for capturing your little one’s early days and help you feel confident about your decision!

Types of Newborn Sessions:

What’s the Difference?

1. Fresh 48

  • What It Is:

This session takes place within the first 48 hours after birth, usually in the hospital, birthing center, or even at home if you’ve had a home birth.

  • What It Captures:

The raw and emotional first moments with your baby—think hospital bracelets, tiny yawns, first cuddles, and parents’ joyful expressions.

  • Why Choose This?

If you want to document those fleeting moments of the "brand-new" stage, with a focus on real, unposed, and heartfelt memories, this is perfect.

  • Tone: Lifestyle and documentary-style, with minimal posing.

2. In-Home

  • What It Is:

A relaxed session in the comfort of your home, typically scheduled within the first 2-3 weeks of your baby’s life.

  • What It Captures:

Everyday moments with your baby in your own space—feeding, cuddling on the couch, nursery details, and interactions with siblings and pets.

  • Why Choose This?

If you love the idea of personal, intimate photos that highlight your family’s connection and the comfort of home, this session is ideal.

  • Tone:

Natural and candid, with gentle direction to create beautiful compositions.

3. Newborn Art

  • What It Is:

A carefully styled and posed session in a cozy studio, designed to showcase your baby in timeless, artistic ways. Best done when the baby is 5-12 days old.

  • What It Captures:

Perfectly posed images of your baby using soft blankets, wraps, and props. Focused on every tiny detail—wrinkly toes, delicate fingers, and dreamy expressions.

  • Why Choose This?

If you want elegant, polished, and artistic images that can be displayed as heirloom prints, this is the session for you.

  • Tone:

Classic, artistic, and detailed, with an emphasis on soft lighting and curated setups.

HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT SESSION FOR YOU

Not sure which one fits your style? Here are some tips:

  1. Fresh 48 Sessions: Great for families who want raw and emotional photos to relive those first bonding moments.
  2. In-Home Lifestyle Sessions: Perfect if you love authentic, natural images that tell the story of your family in your own environment. These sessions are typically scheduled within the first few weeks, but they can also be done up to 1 month old.
  3. Newborn Art Sessions: Ideal if you’re drawn to timeless, posed images and want a studio experience that focuses entirely on your baby. These sessions are best scheduled within the first 5-12 days when babies are at their sleepiest and curliest.

BEFORE THE SESSION

Once you’ve chosen the type of session, I’ll guide you through every step of the preparation process. From helping you decide what to wear to ensuring your baby is calm and ready, I’ll make sure you feel confident and at ease.

DURING THE SESSION

  • You Don’t Need to Do Much:

Whether this is your first baby or your fifth, all you have to do is show up. I’ll take care of the rest!

  • Safety and Comfort First:

My priority is keeping your baby safe and snug. I use soft and safe posing techniques, cozy props, and a warm environment to make everything as stress-free as possible.

  • It’s All About Baby:

The Newborn Art session is completely baby-led. We’ll take breaks for feeding, changing, or soothing whenever needed. Newborn Art sessions can take a bit longer (2-3 hours), but that’s because I allow time for feeding, soothing, and capturing all the tiny details. Patience creates magic!

You might be wondering, ‘What if my baby cries the whole time?’ Don’t worry—I’ve been there, and I’ve got you covered. We’ll take breaks as needed and still create beautiful pictures.

Just imagine...

...how moving it will be years from now, when everyone has grown up, to see your family holding a tiny baby in your arms!

This is an example of a video recorded during a newborn art session. If you'd like, we can include a recording of your voice message as part of it.

P.S. Please excuse the shaky hands—this video was filmed many years ago, at the very start of my journey into videography, using a camera with poor stabilization. Since then, I’ve upgraded to high-quality equipment and can promise you smooth, stable footage.

After the Session

  • Patience Pays Off:

I carefully edit each image to highlight the beauty of those tiny details—wrinkly toes, delicate eyelashes, and adorable yawns. Within promised timeframe, you’ll receive a private gallery to relive the magic.

Feeling nervous? Don’t be! I have experience working with all kinds of babies—fussy, sleepy, or wide awake. No matter which session you choose, the most important thing is that you’ll have meaningful, beautiful images to cherish for years to come. Ready to book or have more questions? Let’s chat—I’d love to hear from you!

Much love,

Louisa
